Global Talent Stream

Global Talent Stream

Global Talents Stream allows highly skilled foreign workers to get a Canadian work permit in just 2 weeks. Through this stream, employers sponsor workers. Two types of employers can invite top foreign talents to Canada to expand their workforce in Canada and compete globally:

Category A

Some dynamic and innovative Canadian companies need unique and specialized international talent with leadership and business development expertise specific to each sector. The companies can recruit global talent with the help of specifically approved organizations.

The Global Talents Stream's approved partner organizations check if the foreign talent is necessary for the company and decide if the companies can fill the position through existing skilled visa programs before recommending them to the Global Talent Stream.

Category B

Some Canadian companies need to hire highly-skilled foreign workers to work in occupations found on the Global Talent Occupations List (currently, most of them are tech jobs), which the Government has already determined to be in-demand in the labor market. This type of employer does not need to get a recommendation from any organization, but they are restricted to hiring workers only in the listed occupations.

Note: Under the Global Talent Stream, the following categories of global talents can enter Canada without a work permit.

  • Highly skilled workers with managerial and professional experience can enter Canada to work for 15 days in six months or 30 days in 12 months without a work permit.
  • Researchers working on research projects at a publicly-funded degree-granting institution or research institution may come to Canada for 120 days in 12 months without a work permit.

Requirements

Wages

Employers looking to hire skilled workers through the Global Talent Stream must pay at the prevailing wage for the occupation or higher.

Labor Market Benefits Plan

Employers must work with Employment and Social Development Canada, the federal government department, to develop a Labor Market Benefits Plan. This plan is all about what positive benefits foreign talent will bring to the Canadian labor market. In other words, if the hiring of a Global Talent Stream tech worker leads to significant and sustained benefits for the hiring firm and other employers and workers in Canada, and the Canadian economy in general.
