Agri-Food Pilot Program


The Agri-Food Immigration Pilot brings foreign agri-food workers to Canada and provides them with permanent resident status.

The goal is to help Canada address the need for a workforce in the agri-food sector, particularly in meat processing and mushroom production.

Foreign workers in and outside Canada can apply to work in one of the following industries:

  • meat product manufacturing 

  • greenhouse, nursery, and floriculture production, including mushroom production 

  • animal production, excluding aquaculture

  • cattle ranching and farming

  • hog and pig farming 

  • poultry and egg production 

  • sheep and goat farming 

 

Requirements 

Education

Candidates must have a secondary school certificate.

Work experience

Candidates must have Canadian work experience. The Canadian work experience must be:

  • At least 1 year of non-seasonal, full-time (at least 1,560 hours) work experience in the past three years;

  • In 1 or more of the eligible agri-food occupations under 1 of the listed eligible industries;

  • Gained through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (The employer must have submitted a Labour Market Impact Assessment with a minimum 12-month duration).

Job offer

Candidates must have a job offer from Canada outside of Quebec. The job must be:

  • In one of the occupations under 1 of the eligible industries;

  • Full-time (30 hours/week);

  • Non-Seasonal;

  • Permanent, with no set end date;

  • For unionized positions, the applicable collective agreement must determine the wage, and it must meet or exceed the median wage for the occupation. 

 

Language skills

Candidates must have at least one of the following test results.

 

Settlement funds

Candidates must prove that they have enough money to settle in Canada, to support themselves and any family members they have, even if they’re not coming to Canada with the worker.

Those who are already working in Canada with a valid work permit when they apply, don’t need to provide proof of settlement funds.
