Federal Skilled Trades
The Federal Skilled Trades Program Accepts applications from skilled foreign trade workers that want to immigrate to Canada on permanent status. Plumbers, electricians, elevator mechanics,carpenters and many other craftsmen, as well as chefs, butchers and bakers are some of the sample occupations.
Minimum Requirements
Work experience
Candidates are expected to have at least 2 years of paid full-time (30h/week) work experience or an equal amount of paid part-time work experience within the five years before applying
Job offer OR Certificate of qualification
It is required to have either a job offer for at least 1 year of full-time work in Canada or a qualification certificate.

Job offer refers to an offer of full-time employment from an eligible Canadian employer for at least 1 year. Up to 2 employers can make a job offer and the successful candidates can work for both employers.The job offer must be from outside Quebec, since the province has its own Quebec Skilled Worker Program.

A qualification certificate is used to identify that a candidate is qualified and received appropriate certification to practice that skilled trade in Canada. It must be issued by a Canadian province or territory, since provinces and territories are in charge of education and skilled trades training.

Additional information and requirements
- Education : Even though there is no education requirement for the Federal Skilled Trades Program, if you studied in a foreign country and you want to improve your chances to get an invitation to the program, you can get points if you request an Educational Credential Assesment (ECA) and this shows that your education is equal to a completed certificate, diploma or degree from a Canadian High School or Post- secondary institution

Proof of funds: You need to prove you have enough money to support yourself in Canada unless you have a valid job offer from an employer in Canada.
