Atlantic Immigration Program

The Atlantic Immigration Program is a pathway to permanent residence for skilled foreign workers and international graduates who want to work and live in 1 of Canada’s 4 Atlantic provinces: New Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island. 

Requirements

You must receive a job offer from a designated employer in Atlantic Canada to participate in the program.

AND

You must be belong to one of the following categories

Category 1

  • If you have at least 1 year work experience in the last 5 years (you can be outside Canada or inside Canada with a temporary status)
  • Your work experience can be in almost any field (from managerial to waiters)

Category 2

  • You must be a recent graduate of a recognized post-secondary institution in Atlantic Canada (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, or Newfoundland and Labrador)
  • It must be a degree, diploma, certificate, or trade or apprenticeship certification that took at least 2 years of studies

Candidates in both categories must also meet the following education and language requirements

Education 

  • If you have a job offer at the NOC 0 or A skill type or level you must have at least one year post-secondary education or higher (high school + 1 year)
  • If you have a job offer at the NOC B or C skill level, you must have at least a high school diploma

Language

  • For NOC 0, A, or B jobs, you must meet the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 (English or French) 

  • For NOC C jobs, Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 4 (English or French)

 

Please read the following to understand NOC skill types

  • NOC Skill Type 0 (management jobs such as restaurant managers, mine managers)
  • NOC Skill Level A (professional jobs that usually need a degree from a university, such as doctors, dentists, architects)
  • NOC Skill Level B (technical jobs and skilled trades such as chefs, electricians, plumbers)
  • NOC Skill Level C (intermediate jobs that usually call for high school and/or job-specific training, such as industrial butchers, long-haul truck drivers, food and beverage servers)
